Held Book Review

Sometimes I read a book that I wish didn't apply to me. This is one of those books. While it would be wonderful if miscarriage wasn't a part of my story, that's unfortunately not the case. So I'm very grateful that this book exists to help me process through the grief in a healthy and biblical way.
Author and Title: Held by Abbey Wedgeworth
Length: 222 Pages
Overview: Held is a devotional written for women who have experienced miscarriage and pregnancy loss. It includes 31 reflections that work through Psalm 139 written by a collection of authors who have all been through a miscarriage of their own. Each reflection ends with questions to help you respond and reflect along with a space for you to journal your thoughts.
Held was truly a grace to me as I read it over the past month. I experienced my third miscarriage in December 2021. This devotional contains raw and real thoughts by women who have been where I've been and have felt what I've felt. It was such a comfort to read someone else's reflections on the same thoughts that have been racing through my head for the past 2 months. It helps me remember that I'm not alone in this. But the most encouraging and helpful part is that everything that is said is rooted in scripture and helped me to grieve in a biblical way with the hope of the gospel in view at all times.
Read this book if: you have experienced a miscarriage. It will be a balm to your hurting heart and will hopefully help you to lean into God during this time. If you haven't experienced miscarriage but have a loved one who has, this would be a wonderful gift to give them.
Favorite Quote: "When it feels like we have nothing left, we become beautifully aware that God is all we have."
What I'm applying: I'm memorizing Psalm 139:16. It says in this verse that the Lord formed every one of my days. I need this reminder that He knows every one of my days and that He isn't wasting a single one of them. Even though I don't know exactly how it works and I will never have answers as to why I had to say goodbye to three babies before I even laid eyes on them, I can trust that God is using every day for His glory and to prepare me for glory.
You can purchase Held here if you'd like to buy it for yourself or for a a gift.
