The God of the Garden Book Review

Author and Title: The God of the Garden by Andrew Peterson

Length: 206 Pages

Overview: Peterson beautifully shares stories from his life in a memoir style. Each story is tied to creation, gardening, or trees in some way. He shares about grief, restoration, growth, and God's goodness all through the lens of creation. I found his storytelling totally captivating and was completely hooked.

We live in the country and love to be outdoors and gardening as much as we can in the warmer months. I think my love of nature made this book resonate with me on a deep level. It was easy to find my story in his story because he connected it to the bigger story of God's goodness and faithfulness. I laughed during some chapters and cried through others, but each one was deep and rich and had me aching to get outside.

Read this book if: you love and appreciate nature, creation, trees, gardening, etc. I also think anyone who feels beaten down and discouraged will find some healing and light through this book.

I’ll be linking this book in my stories and adding it to my book review highlight if you’re interested in reading it!

Favorite Quote: "And now, when the sky is heavy and gray and the rain keeps falling? I rejoice. I've planted seeds, you see, and my feelings about rain have changed. Something good is coming. Every spring, it's inevitable."

What I'm applying: I'm going to plant a garden! This sounds like a silly revelation for anyone who knows me because I always plant a garden. But last summer was hard and the garden that usually feels joyful felt like a burden. I was actually considering not even planting one this year, but this book got me excited for it!
