Hope When it Hurts Book Review

Title and Author: Hope When it Hurts by Kristen Weatherall and Sarah Walton
Length: 250 Pages
Overview: Hope When it Hurts is a 30 day devotional of biblical reflections to help you grasp God's purpose in your suffering. It has space at the end of each chapter to reflect, pray, and journal. I read it more like a book rather than a devotional.
Hope When it Hurts looks at 2 Corinthians 4:6-5:10 and shows us how to stand on the truth of that passage when life is hard. At the end of 2 Corinthians 4, in verse 18 it says: "We look not to things that are seen but the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal." If we look only to what we can see, we won't understand our struggles on earth and how God can possibly be using it for our good. So we must look to the things that are unseen and eternal to encourage us and remind us to hope. This book helps us understand what is unseen.
Read this book if: you are struggling to grasp God's purpose in whatever trial you are walking through. This book will point you back to scripture and remind you where your true hope comes from.
Favorite Quote: "When God's power and strength reign in. your weakness, you show the world - and you assure yourself - that you have hope beyond your present sufferings. You have opportunities that you would not otherwise have had to show the sufficiency of knowing Christ for your joy, and to share the salvation of Christ with those around you."
