It sure feels like everything around us is upside down these days. Culture is so loud and so contrary to scripture that it's hard to keep it all straight. If you're feeling that way, read on for a review of a book that I think will be refreshing for you.
Author and Title: Cultural Counterfeits by Jen Oshman
Length: 207 Pages
Overview: How should Christians act in light of the darkness all around them. How can we respond to culture with a clear head and kind heart? What does the Bible say about abortion, gender, and sex? It feels overwhelming to tackle those questions as the world around us just gets seemingly worse and worse each month! If you're grappling with these questions, this book is for you.
In Cultural Counterfeits, Jen Oshman "confronts 5 empty promises from our age and how we were made for so much more." First she lays out a very helpful history of feminism and explains how we got here. Next she explains how the Word of God and the gospel are the never changes lens through which we should view culture. She goes on to tackle sex, body image, abortion, LGBTQIA+, and the idols of marriage and motherhood.
Read this Book if: I think this book would serve just about any woman well right now. After reading it I have a much more clear understanding of how to discuss these hot button issues from a Christian worldview.
Favorite Quote: This book is not a message of 'be good girls and behave'; it's a pleading to embrace your good God so that you might taste and possess real freedom. Freedom is not the absence of restrictions. Freedom is knowing your nature and thriving in the way you were designed.
