Title and Author: The Holiness of God by R.C. Sproul
Length: 224 pages
Overview: My husband has been telling me to read this book for years! I'm not sure why I put it off for so long, but I think I was mostly just intimidated by R.C. Sproul. I had in my head that he was way too intelligent for me to understand his writing. I finally got around to reading it last fall and it was nothing like I expected. It was so easy to understand and take in.
The command "be holy as I am holy" is repeated over and over in scripture. It defines what our aim is as Christians. This book helps us understand what it means that God is holy and what is looks like for us to be made holy as well.
Read this book if: you have ever wondered why God's holiness is a big deal or how you are supposed to be holy. It is a deep dive into God's holiness that will benefit every Christian to read.
Favorite Quote: Only once in sacred Scripture is an attribute of God elevated to the third degree Only once is a characteristic of God mentioned three times in succession. The Bible says that God is holy, holy, holy. Not that He is merely holy, or even holy, holy. He is holy, holy, holy. The Bible never says that God is love, love, love; or mercy, mercy, mercy; or wrath, wrath, wrath; or justice, justice, justice. It does say that He is holy, holy, holy, that the whole earth is full of His glory.
